Airtel ties up with Zee to widen its content offerings
Airtel and Zee Entertainment have entered into an agreement to provide Zee’s digital offerings on its platform, as per the media reports. At the end of Q1FY19, Bharti Airtel had an Indian subscriber base of 34.4cr users, while Zee has the biggest network market share in broadcasting business and is a leader in media and entertainment Industry.
In February, 2018, ZEEL had launched its OTT platform ZEE5 with 100,000+ hours of video content, which has received favorable initial response. Further, ZEEL has guided to host 90+ original shows on its platform by March 2019. ZEE5 witnessed growth across viewership metrics and is amongst the top-5 digital entertainment platforms in the country.
The strategic partnership is of key importance for both the companies. All the Airtel TV users will get access to ZEE5’s content. Further, this will provide wider reach of Zee content and will give huge monetisation opportunities from its content. While on the other hands this will give Airtel an opportunity to gain market share as for next three years, it would be able to provide value added services to its users.
Recently, Zee Entertainment Enterprises has removed all its content from the Reliance Jio TV app. Zee has removed all 35 channels and video-on-demand from the platform, as per the media reports.
Zee content is of vital importance to the Jio subscribers as it has one of the highest portfolio of channels in the country. On the other side Zee’s subscription revenues will be affected in the absence of the agreement.
