Thus, petrol prices rose by 11 paise per litre, while diesel advanced by 5 paise per litre.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, petrol touched Rs82.72 per litre, while diesel stood at Rs74.02 per litre. In Chennai, petrol price rose by 12 paise, to Rs 85.99, while diesel increased by 6 paise per litre, to Rs 78.2.

Petrol and diesel prices have been rising since mid-August mainly due to a depreciating rupee and rising crude oil prices.
