Nifty near 10,400 mark; BPCL, HPCL stocks gain
Benchmark equity indices remained firm in trade, with the Sensex rising more than 150 points. Today’s gain was led by FMCG, auto, PSU Bank and financial stocks. The stock market has extended intraday gains and hit fresh intraday high in afternoon trade.
At 2:14 PM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 33,825, up 198 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,392, up 60 points.
The BSE Midcap and the BSE Smallcap indices were down by 0.21% and 0.37%, respectively.
Shares of RCom were trading down 1% after HSBC moved Supreme Court against NCLAT order allowing banks to proceed with sale of Reliance Communications’ assets with some riders, as per media reports.
Shares of NMDC were trading higher. The company has set prices of lump ore at Rs3,000 per tonne and fines at Rs2,660 per tonne with effect from 4 April 2018.
Most FMCG shares rose ~1%. Tata Global Beverages (up 2.46%), Bajaj Corp (up 1.96%), Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Health Care (up 0.76%), Marico (up 0.64%), Britannia Industries (up 0.42%), GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (up 0.36%), Dabur India (up 0.29%), Nestle India (up 0.27%) and Hindustan Unilever (up 0.26%), edged higher. Godrej Consumer Products (down 0.09%), Colgate Palmolive (India) (down 0.27%) and Jyothy Laboratories (down 0.46%), edged lower.
Shares of Titan gained 2.5% after it said FY17-18 was a very satisfactory year in terms of overall business performance. Its revenue growth and operating profits for jewellery and watches have been strong.
Volatility index India VIX was up 1.72% to 15.0025.
HPCL (+3.9%), BPCL (+3.9%), Axis Bank (+3.6%), Hindalco (+3.6%) and IOC (+3.4%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.
Zee (-1.9%), Infosys (-1.4%), Tata Motors (-1.2%), Vedanta (-1.1%) and Bharti Airtel (-1.1%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
Out of 2,048 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,073 advanced, 635 declined and 340 remained unchanged today.
A total of 35 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 18 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
