Sensex, Nifty gain; Pharma is the saving grace
Sensex and Nifty have improved their gains after the opening minutes. BSE rose by about 100 points, while NSE is trading above the 10,800 mark. Though sectoral indices traded flat, pharma continued to gain.
At 10.36 AM, BSE Sensex is trading at 35,670, up 187 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 10,839, up 52 points.
BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.40% at 16,072, while BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.46% at 17,052.
Lupin (+2.82%), Dr. Reddy (+2.49%), Wipro (+1.34%), Cipla (+1.28%) and Sun Pharma (+1.20%) were the top gainers on NSE.
Tata Steel (-0.91%), Powergrid (-0.69%), Hindalco (-0.55%), Coal India (-0.47%) and Vedanta Ltd. (-0.45%) were the top losers on NSE.
Some buying activity is seen in healthcare, information technology and capital goods, while basic materials, utilities, metal, power and realty are showing weakness on BSE.
The India VIX is down 2.88% at 12.8000.
Out of 2,044 stocks traded on the NSE, 612 declined, 994 advanced and 438 remained unchanged today.
A total of nine stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 31 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
