Sensex starts on a flat note; Nifty50 tests 8,900

The S&P BSE Sensex started on a flat note with a slight positive bias in morning trade on Tuesday, led by gains in L&T, ONGCBSE 0.23 %, Axis BankBSE 0.12 %, RILBSE 0.15 %, and Sun PharmaBSE 0.70 %.

The Nifty50 was trading near its crucial level of 8,900 supported by gains in realty, IT, power, metal, consumer durables, capital goods, and banking
stocks.

At 09:30 am: the 30-share index was trading 38 points higher or 0.17 per cent at 28,862. It touched a high of 28,863.66 and a low of 28,797.21 in morning
trade.

The Nifty50 was trading at 8,906 up 10 points or 0.11 per cent. It touched a high of 8,909.70 and a low of 8,891.80 in the first 30 minutes of trade.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was trading 0.34 per cent higher and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.39 per cent up.

Bharti AirtelBSE 1.43 % (up 3.7 per cent), GAIL IndiaBSE 0.66 % (up 0.94 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 0.9 per cent), L&T (up 0.92 per cent), and Adani Ports
(up 0.89 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers.

Coal IndiaBSE -1.89 % (down 1 per cent), ITCBSE -0.49 % (down 0.6 per cent), HDFC BankBSE 0.03 % (down 0.3 per cent) and HULBSE -0.73 % (down 0.3 per cent)
were the major Sensex losers.
